Between lush vegetation and rich endemic flora and fauna, the hidden corners of the Azores await your discovery… Join us on this adventure!
The day starts towards the south coast of the island. A comfort stop in Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s first capital, to savor the Queijadas da Vila, the typical desserts. Arrival to Lagoa das Furnas for the walk.
This walk allows you to discover and enjoy the wonderful views of the island of São Miguel. It begins in the parish of Furnas and allows you to stroll through the beautiful Lagoa das Furnas. It is an easy and accessible walk along a dirt road. Along the trail, you will see the “Lagoon hot springs”, an area where locals use the high temperatures of the ground to make traditionally cooked meals.
The trail continues along the lagoon enjoying the serenity of the lake and surroundings. On the way back you will find the Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Vitorias, with nineteenth-century neo-Gothic architecture, and a view of Gaspar Peak, which offers a magnificent view of Furnas parish, where the walk ends.
After lunch, we visit this beautiful area, different landscapes, with these fumaroles and these sources of warm water and, if you want, you can even taste the mineral water. Then a stop is made at the “Pico do Ferro”, where you can admire the excellent view of the crater around the Furnas Valley. We continue our tour along the north coast visiting the Gorreana plantation and tea factory, unique in Europe, where you can enjoy a cup of tea and the magnificent view of the plantations and the north coast of the island.
On the way back to the hotel, we stop at the viewpoint of Santa Iria, to admire the majestic cliffs of the north coast of the island.
